SCOTT WELSH M.D.
BOARD CERTIFIED ORTHOPEDIC SURGEON
For more than 20 years Dr. Scott Welsh has performed orthopedic surgery with a focus on the treatment of knee and shoulder injuries. Dr. Scott Welsh has been in the Austin, Texas community since 2007 and treats individuals of all ages and activity levels from the elite athlete to the weekend warrior. Dr. Welsh has a reputation for providing that personal touch that so often is lost in medicine today, for educating patients about all options, and for the expertise to get his patients back to peak performance. He is also well known for being a very conservative surgeon and in most cases will try to avoid surgery when possible. Dr. Welsh utilizes the latest innovative techniques and technology in both non-surgical and surgical options to speed up your recovery. His goal as a physician is to help improve his patients’ quality of life and function by providing the most effective and least invasive orthopedic care possible.
Dr. Welsh has a special interest in regenerative medicine by utilizing Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) and Stem Cells (BMAC) from your own body to potentially accelerate or improve your body’s natural healing ability. These injectable techniques can be used either as an alternative to surgery or in addition to surgery. Studies have shown that surgery can often be avoided by utilizing these injections which are harvested from your own blood (PRP) or your bone marrow (Stem Cells). These injections can be used to help manage the symptoms of knee arthritis, to potentially slow the progression of arthritis, and to repair damaged tendons and ligaments. They can also be used in some cases to regenerate cartilage loss or repair damaged cartilage. These injections can also be used in surgery to potentially shorten your recover time, decrease your infection risk, decrease pain and swelling, and enhance the healing of soft tissue repairs or reconstructions. In addition, Dr. Welsh frequently utilizes Hyaluronic Acid (Gel) injections to help manage the symptoms of arthritis.
